I feel lucky and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as Chairwoman of the House Education Committee, and as a member of the Appropriations and Public Health and Human Services Committees during this legislative session.
The Education Committee is responsible for all matters that concern public schools. This includes K-12 public school accountability and finance, as well as the administration and financial matters of institutions of higher education here in Colorado. The committee oversees the departments of Education and Higher Education. We meet on Mondays at 1:30pm and Wednesdays upon adjournment of the House.
Public Health and Human Services
The House Public Health Care and Human Services Committee considers matters concerning state health care programs and social services. The committee also has legislative oversight responsibility for the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing and the Department of Human Services. We meet on Tuesday at 1:30pm and Thursdays upon adjournment of the House.
The House Appropriations Committee considers matters concerning the review of pending legislation that has been determined to have a fiscal impact. The committee generally reviews legislation that has been referred to it after an initial review and approval by the first committee of reference. We meet as needed, before work starts on the floor of the House.
If you’re interested in learning more about our work, all committee meetings are open to the public and I invite you to join us! Check out our legislative calendar which is updated daily to show the bills coming up for discussion.
